The Importance of Hiring a Black Photographer in 2024

Bride Squad Weekend - Biltmore Hotel- Miami, FL

It’s Black History Month. I will say this….my clients are consistent with their experiences. In this post, I want to be completely transparent and share their feedback. These experiences became the genesis and inspiration to creating this website. Coincidentally, black-photographer-Miami are the three keywords people tell me they used finding me in their Google Searches. Additionally, there aren’t many female black photographers located here in South Florida.

Where there is death, there’s birth. After George Floyd’s death, a birth of black resurgence means clients demand their dollar investment go to directly to supporting black businesses. It’s my privilege and honor to uphold this responsibility.

Here are some examples of what I hear it ALL the time.

“They gave me a bunch of white and male photographers to choose from and I said I want the black photographer.” - Jesyca

Thanks for selecting me from the lineup.

“I’ve been looking for a black female photographer for so long and found you online (with a sigh of relief).”-Yanatha

I’ve photographed all of their 2023 Events.

I am only investing in black dollars. - Lisa

An international client shared she doesn’t have the same black photographer resources as we do in North America.

“Skin. I am visiting Miami and want a photographer who can photograph and edit my black skin.” - Shola

Atlanta clients

“My daughter and fiance are getting married at the St. Regis Bal Harbour, FL and we found you.

Black Bride - Ritz Carlton

There are several ways I add value to your photo sessions. It starts with getting to know you first. I am not a run-and-gun-style photographer who shows up the day of your session and starts to photograph without a plan (Uh-huh).

Friendship. Ideally, we’re creating a friendship that will last beyond the photoshoot. Guests will often arrive at an experience as strangers, and leave as friends, having a drink or dinner at the end of our session, or call me for the next photoshoot.

Skill. Photographing melanin is an art and skill set. Black skin comes is hundreds of hues and skin tones. The right lighting and retouching skills will separate you from the best because you won’t get the same skin tone twice.

I’ve been honing my skill as a photographer all my life, not realizing the path I was creating for myself. I will say this every time. It started because my Mom had a camera in her hand. At the time, I felt like I had to have one too. I am 100% self taught, who has grown my passion into an art.

Connection. Culturally, we already have a spiritual connection and things in common. My job is to make you feel relaxed, looking great, reflect the magic of the moment coming from your soul, and have FUN in front of my camera in 1 hour.

Comfortable. Not everyone is comfortable in front of the camera, including myself at times. One of my biggest strengths is making clients feel comfortable in front of the camera, helping them with posing, or making them let go and smile is also a victory.

Support. For us to continue to thrive, supporting each other is vital to our community.

Not only are Miami and Fort Lauderdale beaches are their brightest in summer, so are the temperatures. As your personal photographer, it’s my job to make your experience memorable, candid, glamorous, beachy fun, black girl magic, or dreamy romantic here in South Florida.
